Sale conditions of wood are specified by the regulation of Director – General of the Sate Forests.
Within the framework of the individual sale , the foresters try to meet the fast growing demand, because more and more people use wood in order to heat their houses. Contrary to general opinion, these are not only village people, even though they prevail among recipients. The growth of firewood demand is the result of occurrence of new housing estates built in the suburbs of large agglomerations, where houses are usually equipped in fireplace heating installations.
Firewood is not only the most ecological heat source, but also is much more attractive in respect of relation of price and electric efficiency, rather than cola, oil, gas or electric power.
In recent years, the Sate Forests increased the sale of firewood of one third – up to over 4 million cubic meters annually. Some of customers choose already prepared and cut into pieces wood, the others very willingly obtain it by themselves after arranging all details and fulfilling particular safety conditions, and after paying the fee; that concerns mainly so called "thinnings". Such a raw material is very cheap, that is why many people from village areas profit from such possibility.

Narada leśników z komendantami służb mundurowych
29 stycznia, na terenie Nadleśnictwa Augustów odbyła się narada podsumowująca współpracę leśników Regionalnej Dyrekcji Lasów Państwowych w Białymstoku, ze służbami mundurowymi, w obecności księży kapelanów leśników.
W naradzie wziął udział Pan Jarosław Zieliński Sekretarz Stanu w Ministerstwie Spraw Wewnętrznych i Administracji, nadinspektor Daniel Kołnierowicz Komendant Wojewódzki Policji w Białymstoku z podległym komendantem komendy powiatowej w Augustowie, Komendant Podlaskiego Oddziału Straży Granicznej - ppłk SG Grzegorza Biziuk z podległym komendantem placówki SG w Augustowie, Komendant Wojewódzki Państwowej Straży Pożarnej - st. bryg. mgr inż. Jarosław Wendt, z podległym powiatowym komendantem straży pożarnej w Augustowie, jak również komendanci i dowódcy innych służb, m.in. służby więziennej, inspektoratu transportu drogowego, wojsk obrony terytorialnej.
Podczas narady inspektor straży leśnej w RDLP w Białymstoku Jarosław Lenkiewicz przedstawił współpracę leśników ze służbami mundurowymi w 2017r, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zadań wykonywanych przez straż leśną, policję i straż graniczna w Puszczy Białowieskiej. Uczestnicy narady obejrzeli też film o zagrożeniu przez kornika drukarza Puszczy Białowieskiej.
W trakcie narady Pan Jarosław Zieliński, poseł na Sejm RP, otrzymał Kordelas Leśnika Polskiego jako dowód uznania jego szczególnych zasług dla rozwoju Lasów Państwowych i gospodarki leśnej. Naradę uświetniały występy sygnalistów myśliwskich z Nadleśnictwa Ełk oraz kolendy śpiewane przez Chór Leśników Białowieskich.
